IT'S THE MEGA PROJECT DAY!!

Our Mega Project has been decided to be "Gototng Royong" at Kampung Jijan. A few days before the Mega Project, we've been split up into groups to clean up certain places. Our group was selected to clean up a house in Kampung Jijan. The owner's name is Cumirah who lives with her son at the house.

The day before the project, we received a T-shirt to be worn on the day of the Mega Project so everyone will be matched and easy to be recognized. It's a jersey type. My favorite kind of shirt when it comes to getting sweat in it.

We started the day with Zumba conducted by the female villagers in their 40s and 50s. Their stamina is better than most of us who's in our early 20s. Trying to follow every moves that the instructor gave was so much fun and I would laugh everytime I got confused with the steps. The session that took about an hour was the happiest thing that my body did in few months (I stopped 'sweating' after wrapped up the mahasiswa thing).
Then breakfast were provided before we start our activities. Credit to the chef who cooked the Nasi Goreng Tomyam 'cause it was perfect. Filled my empty stomach right away.

Warm up!

After breakfast, we went to makcik Cumirah's house straight away. Her house were kind of big and there are plants around her house. Not to mention the messy bushes that can't be cut off manually. So we knew immediately that we need to gather all our energy to clean them or at least 'tidy up' as much as we can. We split into indoor team and outdoor team and start cleaning. I chose outdoor. So this is how the outdoor looked like:

It seems like there's not much work but believe my.. Under that blinding sun and the long grasses to be pulled out around the pots too, it's not little. Some of us start by cleaning the drains first and watering the plants. Then clearing the unwanted grass around the front yard.

What a hardworking leader... THUMBS UP!!

Hijabista detected!

Little treat in a little rest in middle of work

 While the indoor team...

One.. By.. One.. Squeky clean...

I dunno what she's reaching for XD

Everyone really gave their all to finish things up. Even though we didn't manage to clean up everyting with small manpower, Mrs Cumirah was so grateful as she said thank you many times. She also said that she was happy just to have us there and asked us to come again anytime.  It's my first experience to do "gotong royong" for a house and I've never thought we would need more than 10 person. To clean everything (indoor and especially outdoor) would need at least 15 person with a whole day. We were there for only a few hours so I can't be fully satisfied for what we were able to get done to Mrs Cumirah's house. A grass cutter machine would be a great help in clearing up around her house. We were grateful to Mrs Cumirah for letting us into her house and gave us permission to clean her house.
Thank you so much Mrs Cumirah

Bazaar Day 2!?!!

For the second day, our booth changed place to be nearer to the entrance I mentioned on the last post. Alhamdulillah, our booth had much more visitor than the first day. We got to promote much more effectively as customer will pass by our booth first before reaching to the big canopy.

As for the foods, we had to alter our menu as some of it are unavailable so we added spaghetti carbonara for the 'heavy' food. The rest are still the same so we still use the same menu with the mihun soup crossed out.

As usual, the kimbap was the first to be sold out followed by the spaghetti carbonara. It was surprising to me that the spaghetti carbonara  sold out first even when other booth were selling it too. Maybe because our booth has moved up to front. But I just want to think that it was our own effort that it was sold out (not downgrading I guess? maybe).

As for our teamwork, I've never been in such a 'happy-go-lucky' group in my entire life. I felt like we were all close and comfortable to each other and we relied on each other a lot. Our leader really know how to bring us together and never pressured us harshly. When he said that this thing need to be done by this that then everything was really done by the time he wanted it. Greatest teamwork by our members. Of course in a group of people there must be a member who we would be dissatisfied with but it doesn't really matter to me. Sometimes when she was not around, I wouldn't notice until someone points it out. Not that I don't care at all about that particular person but I felt like if I care too much, It will just spoil my mood for the whole day so it's best that I don't pay much attention about the matter. Just being aware of it is enough for me.

These picture describes how satisfied we were for our mini projects. I love my "Geng Laku Keras" haha

Bazaar Day 1!

Right after the evening class, we set up the canopy up straight away because the sky looks like it was going to rain. It'll be difficult to set up the canopy if it starts raining. So me and Nurhidayah carried the canopy from the hostel to the bazaar spot where our leader, Afdhal and other members were waiting to set it up together. After setting up the canopy, we went upstairs to change and perform prayer.

Then I went to Syafika's and Wan's house (same house unit) to help finishing up the kimbap. Packed and sealed it into small packets and brought it downstairs where some of our members had set up the table under the canopy. We shared the canopy with group 3 as there's no space for then under the large canopy where they paid to be in.

From left: Apam, Kimbap, Popiah Cheese, Mihun Soup, Popcorn

Our canopy were located at the end of the bazaar where it was hard to be seen from the road where customers mostly came from. Furthermore, our canopy was kind of blocked by the large canopy and seems more and more secluded than it would be. Customers would stop at the large canopy and bought foods and beverages there before coming to our side. Some even leave before looking at what we were selling. So I took a step forward to go to the customers instead of waiting for them under the canopy. It was a great idea to do so as it's increase sales and promoting our booth at the same time. I brought the kimbap and the popcorn taster while 'chasing' customers and at the same time, mention the mihun soup the we have back at the booth.

I was also impress on how the group in front of us, the group who sell pre-loved items, did the 'promoting'. Their leader, Iklil wrapped a skarf around his head while calling for customers. It was funny but I think what he was doing was working because it caught my attention and other customer's attention so their car booth was noticed right away.

Bazaar preparations...

As in our prior plan, we were going to sell kimbab, popcorn and brownies. However, we added  more foods into the menu such as apam, egg tart, mihun soup, and 'popia cheese'. these addition was to boost up our sales.

The apam, egg tart, mihun soup and the popia cheese were all made at Natasya's house. Few of our members helped in making all the foods at her house and spent a night there. Alhamdulillah.. The foods were available to be sold at the stall on the day of the Bazaar.

Back at the hostel, me and Nurhidayah packed the popcorn into smaller packs from the big 3 packs. We even seal the packs to help keeping it's freshness and crunchy-ness for days. we've packed quite a lot and finished all the big packs. There were even taster left aside for the bazaar day.

Not to forget Nurhidayah's father big help on lending the canopy for us. Although her father only had the frame without the canvas at first, Mr. Samser went all the way to find the canvas so that we can borrow the canopy. He even said that there's no need to pay for the canvas nor the renting of the canopy as he was going to buy it anyway and that it is the perfect time to buy it. We were grateful to receive such help from Mr. Samser.

Step by step.. Little by little...

At first, we planned to sell our 'snacks' from house to house within the hostel compound only. But a few days after planning the schedule and preparing for the selling, a committee to organize a bazaar for groups who planned for selling were formed in the time being to propose for making a bazaar for few days at the female hostel parking lot. They prepared a proposal and make the event happen even though the proposed date were postponed a week due to waiting for the approval for the proposal.

For our group, we proceeded on the first plan that is to sell our food from house to house on the before postpone date. We agreed to sell the brownies that we picked up in the evening as a start up to see how it goes. So we met at the multipurpose hall to pack the food and once we're done, we start selling it right away. Unexpectedly, we managed to sell all the packed brownies in less than an hour. We concluded that selling the brownies is a good idea and we would definitely repeat order for the brownies. And I personally think that selling from house to house is a good idea even though it require extra energy from our group members because students (especially me) are very lazy when it comes to going out from the house to find food. I would rather wait tomorrow to come to eat. Lazy me. So if people came in front of the house to sell food, I would be interested. Of course some will hate the idea and think it will be annoying to open the door just to say NO to what we're selling but that's just what everyone have to go through when doing something new like this. We managed to get through it anyway. It was a new experience and we're taking a step everyday in making it run smoothly.

The planning

Now it's time to list out what we are going to sell... Firstly, I suggested to sell popcorn as my mother know a friend who makes delicious popcorn. It's crunchy and avery bits is coated with the caramel.

Then one of our group member named Nusrah, knows a friend who sells brownies. It was so fudgy and smooth in my personal taste though.

Syafika knows how to make kimbap (a korean snack where rice, hotdogs, fried eggs are rolled in seaweed sheet) so we put it in the list too.

Lastly,  Faezah too know someone who makes moist cake and sells it with a low price. For a very covered chocolate moist cake with a low price it's consider very cheap and plus we're ordering a lot so the price can go much lower. There we can have extra profit.

With all the food listed, we've discussed carefully and made the decision without any objections from any of us.
